Freelance Writers Guidelines 

 

 

We want American Digger to be your magazine, and welcome your article submissions with photos.

What we look for:
 

True accounts of relic/artifact hunting/collecting not previously published.

Educational/historical facts based on hints and tips.

Historical recoveries from the early 1900’s and back.
From 800 to 2000 words. 

Specifics:

Emailed submissions in Microsoft Word are preferred or a typewritten, double spaced manuscript in both hard copy and on a floppy disk.
Last name in upper corner of each page; word count on title page.
Do not send us your only copy.  Keep a back up!

A self addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage is required if return is desired.

Payment:

3 complementary copies
Business Card or Classified Ad in the issue your article is published

Miscellaneous:

Completed manuscripts with a brief cover letter are considered.
Email or snail mail query letters with submission ideas if desired.

List references and/or sources if applicable.
Include a brief 30 words or less author bio.

Photo Guidelines:

Minimum of 8 photos to accompany article preferred.

High resolution digital photos may be emailed  300dpi minimum
Color or B&W prints   Color preferred
Only sharp focus with good contrast pictures are used

Keep backgrounds simple
35mm slow speed film or digital (300dpi or higher)

No Polaroid’s

Make the subject the main focus of the photo – close as possible on pictures of finds – fill the frame
Detailed captions including names of persons in pictures, locations, and identification of finds

 

Return Policy:

Photos and manuscript returned only if a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope and written request for their return is included with the original submission.

American Digger is published bi-monthly for the pleasure and education of relic hunters, metal detectorists, digging enthusiasts and collectors of American historical artifacts.  Care is taken to create a publication that is accurate, informative, exciting, enjoyable and comprehensive with an emphasis on spreading information about metal detecting and collecting historical artifacts.  Our goal is to be the foremost leading periodical dealing with the pursuit of American relics.
